COVID PCR Test & Rapid Covid Testing
The standard COVID test is called a COVID PCR test. PCR stands for polymerase chain reaction. This test is done by inserting a swab into the nasal cavity to get a mucous sample. After our technicians collect your sample, we send it to a lab for analysis. Results are usually available within 48-72 hours. We will give you a requisition code you can use when you log onto the lab’s site to check your results.
If you need results faster than this, you can get a rapid COVID test. Rapid antigen tests give you results in 20 minutes. Rapid antigen tests are not as accurate as COVID PCR tests, the nasopharyngeal swab method offers 93.75% accuracy but have more false negatives than false positives. Thus, if you get a positive result from your rapid COVID test, the odds are that it is correct and you should stay home until it is safe for you to go out again. However, if you get a negative result, you may want to get a COVID PCR test to confirm the results.
For those who think they may have previously had COVID-19, we offer COVID antibody testing. This test is performed by finger stick and results are ready in about 20 minutes. A positive result on a COVID antibody test does not mean you are immune to COVID. It is possible to get COVID again, and the chances of contracting a COVID variant such as delta or wu are even higher.
COVID Stats in Utah
There are a number of reasons Utah businesses may want COVID-19 testing. One of the most pressing reasons is if your staff is suffering symptoms of COVID. Cold and flu symptoms that we may have brushed aside at one time can no longer be ignored. Now, going to school, work or even the grocery store with cold symptoms can have dire consequences. Symptoms of COVID-19 include:
-
Sore throat
-
Cough
-
Fever/chills
-
Nausea/vomiting
-
Runny nose/congestion
-
Body and muscle aches
-
Weakness/fatigue
-
Loss of sense of smell
-
Chest pain
-
Trouble breathing
Having one or more of these symptoms does not necessarily mean you have COVID; however, you should still get tested. If the results are positive, you will be directed to quarantine at home for a period of time.
Another reason Utah businesses seek COVID testing is if staff have been exposed to someone with COVID. A third reason for testing is due to events. If you have an event, you may want to get tested before the event to ensure you are not carrying COVID. This may also be a requirement of your job or your event.

Since the pandemic hit, about 700,000 people in the U.S. have died from the virus. These are only confirmed cases in which testing was done. Actual COVID death counts are suspected to be tens of thousands higher.
The Weber-Morgan Health Department compiles COVID statistics for both Weber and Morgan counties (Ogden is in Weber). The area has seen more than 40,000 confirmed cases of COVID and at least 277 deaths. More than 86,000 people live in Ogden; more than 260,000 live in Weber County and more than 12,000 live in Morgan County.
In Weber County, the Health Department puts the risk of contracting COVID-19 at “very high.” About 49% of Weber County residents are fully vaccinated.
Ogden Regional Medical Center has only 14 beds in the ICU, and they are often filled with COVID patients. Although the COVID vaccine does not prevent COVID infection 100%, it significantly reduces the odds that patients will be seriously ill or hospitalized.
Doctors and nurses at the hospital stress that they have seen patients of every age admitted to the ICU. Those who live through their COVID infection often suffer with weakness, fatigue, pain and other symptoms for months. This is known as “long COVID.” Others suffer neurological symptoms that include confusion and delusions.
One of the most important things to remember is that COVID affects patients differently. If you know someone who got COVID and didn’t get very sick, that doesn’t mean the same is true for you or others. Furthermore, being young, strong and healthy does not mean you will weather a COVID infection unscathed. Therefore, it is important to get COVID testing in Ogden anytime you feel sick or have had an exposure to COVID, not just for your own protection, but for the protection of those around you, whether they be friends, relatives or strangers.
